This is an experiment to use the power of Reddit, Hacker News, Diig and other social media for charity and helping others, and to encourage businesses to make a donation for the Haiti earthquake victims.
A side benefit is exposure for your startup or business, and the feeling that you're providing support to a very worthy cause.
Why Should I Do This?
- You will receive exposure for your startup/business, and possibly some new customers.
- You'll receive traffic from this site, and from Twitter to your designated website.
- You can show your customers that you're a charitable business.
I wanted to help Haitians in need, and also to create value for the people generous enough to provide this support.
What Happens?
- You send a donation through this widget :
- Click "Add special instructions to merchant"
- Type in Tweetable one-liner (140 character limit) about your business. For example : "Company Name, What Your Company Does, http://www.your-company-site.com, $20"
- This message and a link to your business will be :
- posted to the Twitter Account at https://twitter.com/HaitiBenefit
- will automatically appear in the Twitter column on this blog
- will be added to the blog post below.
Where will the money be donated to?
At the end of one month on the 13th of February, all collected money will be donated to the Hands On Disaster Response (http://hodr.org/) who are on the ground and providing direct assistance in Haiti right now.
Do I have to be a business to donate?
No, you can make a donation without being a business, or without leaving a comment.
